ART on the street The Carpet Day 

The feast of Corpus Christi has been celebrated in Arucas since little after the Conquest of the island by the Spanish troops. According to the chronicles, the first procession that was celebrated in Arucas was the Corpus Christi in 1555.

From the early hours in the morning more than forty carpets are carefully handmade along the streets of Arucas historical town centre . They are made of either salt, sawdust, flowers and natural land of the island .

To arrive at the parish church making the end of the procession a rain of rose petals thrown from the church vault draws up the last flower carpet on the Altar.

DIE KUNST auf der Strasse Die Teppichfest

Das Fronleichnamsfest wird in Arucas seit kurz nach der Spanische Truppe Eroberung Gran Canaria gefeiert. Die erste Prozession, die in Arucas gehaltet war die Fronleichnamsprozession im Jahre 1555.

Seit den ersten Morgenstunden wird langsam eine Strecke durch die Altstad t mit mehr als vierzig Teppichen aus Salz, Sägemehl, Blumen und natürliche Erde von der lnsel.

Wenn die Prozession die Kirche betritt, ein Regen von Rosen Blüten sind aus dem Gewölbe geworfen und somit wird der letzte Blumenteppich auf dem Altar gelegt .
